Richard Zeifman

Ph.D., C.Psych. — Clinician

Richard has long been interested in how people make sense of their inner worlds and navigate periods of distress, change, and growth. In therapy, he aims to create a thoughtful, collaborative space where clients feel understood, supported, and appropriately challenged in ways that lead to meaningful and lasting change.

He works with adults experiencing trauma, anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, relationship difficulties, and obsessive or compulsive patterns. He is particularly drawn to working with clients who feel stuck in longstanding emotional patterns or who are navigating complex life transitions. He also supports individuals integrating psychedelic experiences, as well as those seeking greater self-understanding, well-being, or personal growth.

His approach is collaborative, strengths-based, and grounded in evidence-based care. He draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy, with a strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship and on building insight, emotional flexibility, and practical skills. He has extensive experience providing therapy and assessment and is a quality-rated provider of Cognitive Processing Therapy. He has also served as a therapist in multiple clinical trials of psychedelic-assisted therapy, including MDMA- and psilocybin-assisted treatments.

Alongside his clinical work, Richard remains actively engaged in research focused on how psychotherapy works and on the safety and effectiveness of psychedelic-assisted therapy. This work informs his clinical practice, particularly his attention to the processes of change and the importance of a genuine, collaborative therapeutic relationship.
