Mehvish Islam

Intake Coordinator

While mental health is a universal aspect of life, Mehvish believes everyone’s experience with mental health is unique and should be treated as such. She is passionate about client-centred, accessible, and equitable mental health care that is community-driven. Having witnessed how connection and compassion can foster resilience, she is grateful to join the Remedy team in a collaborative, inclusive and warm environment.

Mehvish is currently a Master’s student in Counselling Psychology and Psychotherapy at the University of Toronto, where she is committed to supporting people from all walks of life. Previously, Mehvish has contributed to multiple research initiatives focused on equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) in psychology education at the University of Toronto, Scarborough. Driven by principles of equity and a holistic approach to psychology, she collaborated on a Departmental EDI Handbook to support more inclusive pedagogy within undergraduate psychology courses.

Aside from her research interests, she has worked with the Distress Centres of Greater Toronto in suicide prevention services, garnering extensive training and experience with crisis intervention and mental health care. During this time, she found herself compelled by the idea that identity and social location profoundly shape individuals’ lived realities. This fostered a deep appreciation for the vast and dynamic elements that paint the picture of one’s inner world. Mehvish looks forward to honouring each of those elements while working with the community at Remedy and fostering a welcoming climate that allows people to show up as their authentic selves.
